Take the longest free ferry ride

However mundane the “longest free ferry ride in the world” on Kootenay Lake may have become to local residents, it remains an experience not to be taken for granted. Whether you spot the distant Kokanee Glacier, get lost in your daydreams about the relics of Pilot Bay, or chance upon the sight of a hunting osprey, there is always something new and fantastic to be seen on the water. There is plenty of parking for walk on travelers and shops and cafes at both terminals to make the ride an outing in itself. Sailing schedules are available at (250) 229-4215, www.kootenaylake.bc.ca or the Ministry of Transportation’s website.
