Cottonwood Park is the home of many of the area’s special events, including the Cottonwood Music Festival, Canada Day, Stuart Lake Fishing Derby, and the Caledonia Classic Dog Sled Race. The park is home to the Marion Steam Shovel. It was built in the twenties, came to Fort St. James in the thirties and worked in the Placer Mine until the forties. The park is also home to a one third scale model of a W34 Junkers Bush Plane – a plane that played a key role in the Second World War and was key in opening up Canada’s north. It’s located close to downtown and has a number of amenities including a bandstand, children’s playground, covered picnic area, beach volleyball, and a RV sani dump.
