Where the welcome is warm and the wilderness beckons!
Nestled in the beautiful Bulkley Valley amongst some of BC’s finest outdoor recreational opportunities is the town of Houston. If you are an outdoor enthusiast, there is always room on the riverbank or the many scenic nearby lakes for fishing and boating, or you can enjoy walking and hiking on the many trails in the area.
I invite visitors to our community to stop and relax in our beautiful Steelhead Park along Highway 16 which is the home of, and showcases the magnificent 975 lbs Hungry Hill Grizzly Bear in its natural habitat for all to see and can be viewed 24 hours per day.
In Steelhead Park you will also see the World’s largest fly fishing rod constructed entirely of aluminum and is anodized bronze to simulate graphite. It is 60 ft. long, weighs approx. 800 lbs. The reel has a diameter of 36 inches. The fly is a florescent orange “Skykomish Sunrise” and is 21 inches long.
If its nature you like, you can take a leisurely walk at the Duck Pond. There is a viewing platform from which you can view the many species that make this their home for the summer and include: Common Goldeneye, American Coot, Pintail, Mallard, Blue-Winged Teal, and Wood Duck.
Owen Hat, a popular climbing area south of Houston, is all that remains of an ancient volcano. Great rock features, including bolted and top-roped climbing routes.
While in Houston, be sure to visit our brand new state of the art Leisure Facility open year round, which has a 25m four lane pool, leisure pool with lazy river, hot tub, steam room and fitness gym.
There are numerous geocaches in Houston and surrounding area for year round adventure. Geocaching is an outdoor treasure-hunting game in which participants use a GPS receiver to hide and seek containers called geocaches anywhere in the world.
Our friendly merchants are always willing to help you with your shopping needs and dining.
Whatever your interests, we are sure to have something to keep you and your family entertained.
Hope to see you in Houston!
