With a wide variety of terrain types, plenty of alpine altitude and great trails, the Nicola Valley offers the best snowmobiling for riders of all skill types. A great
location for beginners is at the Helmer Lake Recreation Site, about 15 minutes north of Merritt on Highway 5 (Coquihalla). With trails ranging all around Swakum Mountain, Helmer Lake is also one of the site’s of the Merritt Snowmobile Club’s annual Snowarama event. More experienced snowmobilers can head south to the Thynne Mountain Snowmobile Trails, located about 30 minutes south of Merritt just off Highway 5 near the community of Brookmere. The more extreme rides are located 18 kilometres west of Merritt at Stoyoma or Honeymoon -location of the annual Spring Fling. For more information on snowmobiling in the Nicola Valley, you can visit the club’s website for contact information at www.freewebs.com/merrittsnowmobileclub or call the club president Grant at (250) 378-6177 or Tracy at (250) 315-1082.
